Comment: My wife and I were in a difficult situation: whether or not to reject a referral for a Russian child based solely upon sketchy medical records made available to us. Dr. George Rogu made himself available for a pre-consultation, without hesitation.
After a preliminary evaluation of the information by phone (we live in Pawling, N.Y., quite a distance away from Dr. Rogu’s office) in which he demonstrated his medical knowledge and wise counsel, we decided to follow his sound logic of “understanding the probabilities” and accept the referral.
In Russia, after meeting the child who was to become our new son, we followed Dr. Rogu’s directions, sending him all the pertinent information and a photograph of the child to him via the Internet. Within a few hours he emailed to us a thorough evaluation, based on an objective perspective. This clear and concise information immediately relieved the stress associated with confusing and serious-sounding terminology used in the Russian medical report. And armed with this knowledge we confidently proceeded with the adoption process.
Finally, Dr. Rogu’s full report was subsequently mailed to our home promptly. Our pediatrician, who has no experience evaluating internationally adopted children, has used it as a solid foundation upon which to begin her physical assessment of our child.
Susan and I are very thankful to Dr. Rogu for bringing us together with our new son. We could not recommend him more highly. |
